| Troops to Teachers Program The Troops to Teachers program is designed to assist separating or retiring military personnel in pursuing a rewarding second career in public education. The long-term goal of the program is to help improve American education by providing mature, self-disciplined, experienced and dedicated personnel and positive role models for our nation’s classrooms. The program provides three types of assistance to qualifying veterans: Career Counseling and Advice, Financial Assistance, and Employment Placement Assistance and Counseling. The district offers a Hire-in-Advance Program for Troops to Teachers participants to help staff our greatest need teaching areas of secondary math and science (e.g., chemistry and physics), and K-12 special education. Through this program, separating or retiring military members may apply for a teaching position with the district and interview up to two years in advance. Selected applicants are offered a Letter of Intent to hire, outlining the criteria to be met upon release from military service and other conditions of employment.
